One of my fundamental beliefs is that true growth only comes from pain. Take, for instance, my battle with addiction. This was a period in my life marked by immense struggle and pain. Addiction is a relentless adversary that takes hold of every aspect of your being. It’s a dark place where every day feels like a fight for survival, where the physical and emotional tolls are immense. However, it was through facing this pain head-on that I was able to transform my life. This period left me physically, mentally, and emotionally scarred, yet it also revealed a resilience I hadn’t known I possessed.

However, during a parade in the winter of 2021, the sound of sirens coming from firetrucks and police cars in the parade meant to celebrate instead triggered a deep panic within me.
