Trump vs Harris: Why America Needs a Change in Leadership in 2024

First, let me say I hate politics. I truly do. I don’t participate in elections, and I’ve got my reasons for that, which I might dive into at some point in the future. But for now, let’s just say that as much as I try to steer clear of the political circus, it feels impossible to escape the noise. It’s everywhere, from the moment you open social media to when you turn on the TV. And, with the presidential election around the corner, it’s even more suffocating. So, in the spirit of adding to the growing chatter, I thought I’d throw in my two cents.

For the record, I don’t like either candidate. Not Harris. Not Trump. Honestly, I haven’t liked any of the choices we’ve been offered in recent years. It always feels like we’re stuck picking between the lesser of two evils. It’s a never-ending cycle, and I’ve grown weary of it. Still, if we’re talking about the current options on the table, I’ve got a few thoughts about where this election seems to be heading.

To be frank, if I had to choose—and again, this isn’t me endorsing anyone—it seems like the logical choice would be Trump. Before you start throwing things at your screen, hear me out. This country is in rough shape right now. You can’t ignore it. From the price of gas to housing to the rising costs of food—everything is through the roof. Inflation feels like it’s out of control, and everyday Americans are the ones bearing the brunt of it.

We’ve got illegal immigration happening on a massive scale, and no one seems to be doing a damn thing about it. They’re coming in however they can—crossing borders, overstaying visas, slipping through the cracks—and we’re just standing by watching. What’s the plan here? The situation doesn’t seem to be under control, and it’s adding pressure to an already strained system.

And don’t even get me started on crime. Have you seen the headlines lately? It’s like the country is unraveling at the seams. From violent crimes to theft, it feels like no place is truly safe anymore. Something needs to change because what we’ve been doing for the past few years isn’t working.

Then there’s our standing on the world stage. Let’s be real: it’s at an all-time low. Our global reputation has taken a nosedive. We’re no longer viewed as a powerhouse or a beacon of strength. Instead, we’re seen as weak, disorganized, and floundering. When you’re in a leadership role on the global stage, perception matters. Right now, our image isn’t doing us any favors.

Now, let’s talk about Harris. She’s been Vice President for four years, and in that time, has she really made any substantial changes? If we’re going by results, I’d argue no. She talks a good game about fixing the issues—climate change, immigration, crime—but where’s the proof that she can actually deliver? Hasn’t the Democratic Party had ample time to address these problems? They’ve had control for 12 out of the last 16 years, and yet here we are, deeper in the hole than ever before. Why should we trust that more time under their watch is going to suddenly turn things around?

On the other hand, when Trump was in office, things weren’t perfect, but at least we saw some good times. The economy was stable, unemployment was low, and our country felt, for lack of a better word, strong. Sure, he’s got his flaws, but if you strip away the theatrics and the noise, there were some tangible results during his tenure. Gas prices weren’t what they are now. Food was affordable. People had jobs, and they weren’t breaking their backs just to make ends meet. There’s something to be said about that.

I get it—Trump is divisive. He says things that make you cringe, and his ego could fill a stadium. But if we’re looking at this purely from a results-driven perspective, the man delivered in ways that we haven’t seen lately. In a lot of ways, the choice between Harris and Trump seems pretty clear. Do we want more of the same from the last four years, or do we want to try to recapture some of the prosperity we had before?

I’m not saying Trump is the perfect candidate. He’s far from it. But if you’re asking me who I think could make a difference in the current climate, the answer seems pretty simple. It feels like the country was in a better place before, and maybe we should try to get back to that.

At the end of the day, politics is a dirty game, and it’s tough to feel hopeful about any of it. But when it comes to choosing between Harris and Trump, I think a lot of people—myself included—are looking at the past and wondering if maybe we should try to relive some of those better times.

Stay disciplined. Stay resilient.
