Join me as I reflect on 2024—a year of growth and big wins—and how I am building momentum for an even better 2025.
The end of the year always feels like a deep breath—a pause to reflect on where we’ve been and a chance to recalibrate before we charge into what’s next. It’s not just about turning the page on a calendar; it’s about taking stock of every step forward, every stumble, and every lesson learned along the way. That’s where I’m at right now. With the holidays here, I’ve stepped back from content creation to focus on family and recharge. But even in this pause, my mind keeps circling back to everything this past year has taught me.
2024 was a year of growth, plain and simple. Not just the kind you measure in milestones or certificates, though there were plenty of those, but the kind that stretches you in ways you didn’t even know you needed. I pushed myself hard, and honestly, I’m proud of what I accomplished.
This year was a leap forward in my education. I earned certificates in fitness and nutrition from the National Academy of Sports Medicine—two areas I’m passionate about because they’re not just about physical health but mental clarity and resilience. Alongside that, I dove deep into mental health and well-being courses, earning specializations from various universities. Those lessons hit close to home, and every time I learned something new, I thought about how to use it to make an impact.
Becoming a Certified Life Coach and a Certified Goodwill Career Coach and Navigator was a high point, but the real jewel in the crown? Completing the coursework to pursue my Certified Peer Recovery Coach certification through ICAADA. I haven’t taken the certification test yet—that’s lined up for January 2025—but I can’t wait. This one feels personal. It’s a subject I care about on a level that goes beyond professional ambition; it’s a mission. Every class, every moment of study, felt like a step toward something bigger, a chance to turn my experiences into tools that help others.
And the grind doesn’t stop here. 2025 is already packed with plans for growth. I’m set to take courses to become a Moral Reconation Therapy Facilitator—a role that aligns perfectly with my goal to help people rebuild their lives from the inside out. More courses on mental health and addiction are also on the horizon. Learning has become less about checking boxes and more about arming myself with knowledge to make a difference.
Professionally, my role as a Jail Officer at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office has taken on new depth. Working with inmates who face mental health and addiction challenges feels like a calling. It’s more than just a job. It’s a way to use my own journey through addiction and recovery to connect with people who are still in the thick of it. My lived experience gives me an edge, a level of empathy that can’t be faked. There’s talk of shifting my role to focus exclusively on this area, and I’m hopeful those plans materialize. Until then, I’m pouring myself into the work and showing up for the people who need it most.
This year also marked a bittersweet goodbye. In September, I stepped away from my part-time role as a Police Officer for the Town of Prince’s Lakes. Balancing that with my full-time role as a Jail Officer became impossible without compromising somewhere, so I made the tough call. I’m grateful for the time I spent there, the experience, and the people who trusted me to serve. Those memories and lessons stay with me, even as I’ve had to move on.
Family has been the anchor through all of this. Kelly and I didn’t just navigate another year; we made it a damn good one. A summer vacation to a cabin in Lake Potaka was a highlight—a chance to unwind, unplug, and just be. Then there were the adrenaline-pumping moments, like seeing Five Finger Death Punch live in concert and laughing until we cried at Gabriel Iglesias. These moments remind me why all the hard work matters. It’s about building a life worth living and sharing it with the people who matter most.
Looking ahead to 2025, I feel ready, not in some naive, everything-will-be-perfect kind of way, but in a grounded, determined way. I know there will be challenges—there always are—but there’s also hope. And for me, hope isn’t just wishful thinking—it’s action. It’s setting goals, making plans, and showing up every day to do the work.
I’m stepping into the new year with the same mindset that got me here: discipline, purpose, and a refusal to quit when things get tough. I’ll keep reflecting, learning, and growing. And I hope you’ll do the same wherever you are in your journey. Because every step forward, no matter how small, is progress. And progress? That’s what makes all the difference.
Here’s to what’s ahead. Let’s make it count.
Stay disciplined. Stay resilient.
