Mill Race Marathon 5k: My Personal Victory and Team Highlighter

Yesterday was a day I had been looking forward to: the Mill Race Marathon 5k. So I laced up my shoes, donned my signature neon yellow running gear, and headed out for the race. Now, this wasn’t my first rodeo; it was my second official race, but let me tell you, the atmosphere was something else. This event was much bigger than the last race I ran in, and there were thousands of people out there, all gathered to test their endurance. The marathon is the headliner, as the name suggests, but they also run a half marathon and a 5k at the same time. Naturally, I signed up for the 5k. While I’ve got big aspirations, the 5k is a sweet spot for me right now.

Training Refocus: Shifting to 5K and 10K Races

For the past couple of months, I’ve been diligently training for the upcoming half marathon in Indianapolis. The big race is set for November 9, 2024, and while I’ve made solid progress, I’m finding myself facing some challenges—none of them impossible, but ones that are forcing me to reconsider my approach. You know, life has a funny way of throwing curveballs just when you think you’ve got everything figured out.

From Solo Runs to Competition: My First Official Race Story

Today, I ran in the Jackson Township Fire Department’s 9/11 Memorial Run in Brown County, Indiana. Now, if you know me, you know I’ve been running for years—it’s been more than just exercise; it’s been part of my recovery journey from addiction. Running has always had a therapeutic quality for me, a place where my mind can clear and I can focus on something positive. But despite all the miles I’ve logged, this run was special because it was my first organized event.
